Service animals play a vital role in supporting the independence, safety, and well-being of many individuals with disabilities. At the Rehabilitation Engineering Design Laboratory (RED Lab), we are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants, visitors, staff, and their service animals.
Meet Misha (Michelle III), a dedicated service dog who works alongside Kayden in daily life. Like many service animals, Misha is specially trained to perform tasks that assist her handler and support greater independence in everyday activities. Service animals are working partners and their presence enables many individuals to fully participate in research, education, employment, and community life.
To help create a respectful and accessible environment, we encourage all lab visitors to recognize that service animals are actively performing important duties while on site. Giving service animals the space and focus they need allows them to effectively support their handlers.
As part of our mission, RED Lab is committed to ensuring that individuals of all abilities can access and benefit from our research and services. Welcoming service animals is one of the many ways we strive to remove barriers, promote inclusion, and create a positive experience for everyone who engages with our work.
