At the Rehabilitation Engineering Design Laboratory, we do more than analyze WheelTrak data. We bring the “Design” in Rehabilitation Engineering Design Laboratory to life by transforming participant feedback into innovative solutions.
Wheelchair add-ons are a recurring topic in our research conversations, often highlighting opportunities to improve comfort and everyday usability. Inspired by these discussions, one of our PhD candidates set out to develop an arm-warmer attachment designed to help wheelchair users stay comfortable during colder weather.
Living and working in Ohio, where temperatures can shift dramatically from one day to the next, our team is constantly exploring practical and efficient ways to address such challenges. This project is one example of how engineering, design, and people-centered thinking come together to create meaningful solutions.
Take a look behind the scenes at some of our early prototypes below, and follow along as we share updates on the design process, testing, and progress over the coming months. We are excited to see where this journey leads.
